IMPORTANT ROAD ALERT: The Masinagudi–Ooty road is CLOSED from May 1–31. You must go via Gudalur. Route: Bangalore → Mysore → Gundlupet → Gudalur → Ooty/Kotagiri.
🎒 Pack the night before: Clothes (carry a light jacket — Kotagiri nights are 12°C), charger, cash (ATMs are scarce), snacks, water, sunscreen.
⛽ Fill your fuel tank the evening before. Don't wait till morning.

⛽ Fill fuel at Gundlupet — last reliable fuel station before the hills. Don't skip this!
🪵 You'll pass through Bandipur and Mudumalai forest zones — drive carefully, speed limits apply (40 km/h inside the forest), and you might spot wildlife!
📸 Stop at any viewpoint on the way up — these views are stunning and free!
🤢 If anyone gets car sick, keep windows slightly open and slow down on turns.
🏧 Withdraw cash now if you need it — Kotagiri has limited ATMs and they can run out.
📸 Best photo time: 5:30–6:30 PM when the golden light hits the valley.
🥶 Carry your jacket — it gets cold and windy up here in the evening.
📞 Message the host in advance to let them know your expected arrival time.
🌙 Spend the evening on the balcony with the stars — Kotagiri has very little light pollution.
📸 Stop for photos at any tea estate — the rows of green tea bushes against the blue sky are stunning.

Carry ₹5,000–8,000 in cash. ATMs are unreliable in Kotagiri and some places don't take cards.
Fill your car the evening before. Don't rely on finding petrol at 5 AM.
Pack the night before: 2–3 pairs of clothes, 1 warm jacket/fleece, charger + power bank, toiletries, medicines (esp. motion sickness if needed), sunscreen, camera.
Download Google Maps offline for the Nilgiris area — mobile network can be patchy in the hills.
Masinagudi route CLOSED till May 31. Your only route is Bangalore → Mysore → Gundlupet → Gudalur → Kotagiri.
Fill fuel at Gundlupet on the way up and at Gudalur on the way back. Stations are sparse after this.
Bandipur Forest stretch has a 40 km/h speed limit — strictly enforced with cameras. You might see wildlife here!
Avoid driving on ghat roads after dark if possible. They're narrow, foggy, and have sharp turns.
Days: 18–22°C — comfortable, mild. You can wear normal clothes.
Nights: 10–13°C — carry a light jacket or fleece. It's cold after sunset!
